K = °C + 273.15

Convert a temperature between Celsius, Fahrenheit, kelvin and Rankine. Unlike most quantities in the catalog, none of these conversions is a plain factor: Celsius and Fahrenheit carry an offset, not just a scale, which the engine applies exactly rather than approximating. A value below absolute zero (0 K, −273.15 °C) is rejected: that is not a temperature that exists, whichever scale it is entered in.

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32

°R = °F + 459.67

Kelvin and Rankine are absolute scales: their zero is absolute zero, the point where all thermal agitation stops. Celsius and Fahrenheit shift that zero by convention (at the freezing point of water for the former, at another historical reference for the latter). That shift, not a plain change of unit. Is why none of these four conversions reduces to a multiplication.

A temperature below 0 K (that is −273.15 °C, −459.67 °F or 0 °R) is rejected by this tool, whichever scale it is entered in: that is not a display limit but the state where, by definition. There is no thermal energy left to remove. Converting it anyway would produce a plausible, wrong number, indistinguishable from a correct result. The failure mode ADR-0012 forbids.
